Hopefully everyone enjoyed a long weekend and we can stave off the rain for long enough to get a round in this evening at Holmes. We’ll be tapping White Elm’s PMA. Positive Mental Attitude (a.k.a PMA) is a pale ale with generous (but not overwhelming) hops and a crisp, clean finish that makes it an easy drinking beer.
This week’s featured beer for the Rare Beer Dinner sweepstakes is Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Barleywine Ale. This traditional English-style barleywine pulls hints of oaky tobacco and warm vanilla from third-use Kentucky bourbon barrels. The result is a rich ale that lacks the hops and bitterness for which American-style barleywine is known, and rings in at over 14% alcohol by volume.
If you can’t wait to give this one a try, look for another famous beer from Goose Island, Bourbon County Brand Stout, at Moran’s Liquor Works, which included it in a recent release honoring Lincoln Beer Week. While you’re there, pick of a couple growlers in honor of the short work week.
