Week #5 Beers

Ryan Cooper

After a few days of rain, hopefully we’ll have good weather for golf. Rain or shine, we’ve got a good lineup of beers for you this week. For Monday at Highlands, we have Zipline’s Alpha Modern on tap (a hazy session IPA packed with hops and a hint of grapefruit). This week’s featured can is Luponic Distortion Revolution No. 009 from Firestone Walker, the latest release in their revolving hop series. Beers in the Distortion series revolve approximately every 90 days with the base beer remaining the same and a different hop blend used for each version. The lead hops in the current release include two varieties from the Pacific Northwest, one that yield notes of tropical fruit and coconut, and another that adds pine and citrus qualities.

At the Tuesday Holmes league, we’ll feature beers from Empyrean. The included round beer on tap will be Supernova, “a toast to rolling surf, Baja hoodies, beach BBQs and the elusive green flash.” We’ll also sample Empyrean’s Dark Side vanilla porter and Burning Skye Scottish ale. Dark Side is a smooth, dark, roasted porter with notes of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Burning Skye is brewed in the tradition of Scotland’s malty-sweet beers. It has a smooth finish with a hint of smoke.

Our featured beer for the Rare Beer Dinner sweepstakes this week is the Barrel Aged Bomb from Prairie Artisan Ales in Oklahoma. The Barrel Aged Bomb is their imperial stout aged in wooden whiskey barrels and features notes of vanilla and caramel.

Again, a big thanks to our sponsors, K&Z and Moran’s Liquor Works (our pin prize sponsor offering gift cards and growler fills). If you’re celebrating Lincoln Beer Week, be sure to stop by Moran’s this Wednesday between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. for a behind-the-scenes look at brewing with Bells Brewing. And don’t forget to check in with the Lincoln Beer Week app for your chance to win great prizes. Cheers!
