CBGL Second Half

We're just getting started. Check back for our first blog posts.

CBGL Second Half

Ryan Cooper

We hope you enjoyed the Fourth of July break and you are looking forward to getting back into the swing of CBGL this week.  Let’s touch on a few changes for the second half and then dive into this week’s beers.

For the second half we have taken your team’s top 5 scores during league play (excluding the pre-season weeks) and used them to re-flight each league.  We took the average of these five scores out three decimal places; if there was still a tie, we used the total points accumulated as the tie-breaker.  Here are your new flights:

Second Half Scoring

For the second half, we will keep the same scoring system.  Each week you compete against another team in your flight to earn points.  Points are earned in the following manner:

  • 1 point for a hole win
  • 0.5 points for a hole tie
  • 0 points for a hole loss
  • 2 points for the low total (net) score

Handicaps will be applied each week based on the team’s 5 best scores during CBGL (i.e. handicaps will be recalculated each week).  However, a maximum of 3 strokes will be applied in any given match, including the total score.  For example, if Team A has a 5-score average of 31 and Team B has a 5-score average of 35, Team B would only receive 3 strokes from Team A.  Each team can earn a maximum of 8 points per week.

Substitute Policy

Subs are allowed.  Please let the CBGL organizers and your opponents know if you have a sub playing.  Teams with subs will not receive strokes, but they must still give them.  No subs will be allowed during the final championship week.

Playing Solo

If you elect, or are forced, to play without a teammate, you can hit two shots until you get inside of 100 yards.  Stated another way, the solo format is a 1-man scramble until you get inside of 100 yards, where the format changes to stroke play.  This format allows for some strategy (e.g. in instances where you may be receiving 3 strokes from an opponent, it may be better to play solo than give up your strokes and invite a sub).

The second-half championship meal will feature steaks from Certified Piedmontese.  This meal is included in your league fees, so make sure you plan to attend the final week.

GolfStatus Tourney

If you have been using the GolfStatus App to check in for league, you will be invited to play in an 18-hole 2-man event this fall.  Your green fee and cart fee will be covered for this event.  The format, date, time and location of this event will be confirmed at a later date.

Message from Lincoln City Golf

Please remember to check in and pay each week.

Rob took a break from writing the beer blog this week, so I (Ryan) thought I would give it a shot … here goes nothing!

Our pin prize from Moran’s is DAAANG! IPA from Zipline Brewing. This beer is getting serious love from beer geeks both locally and nationally.  In fact, the beer is so cool, Zipline even produced a release video. I’m a bit of a homer for Zipline; I went to law school with the brewer, Marcus, and we shared a passion for water law.  Now, Zipline is one of the top-selling craft brands in Nebraska.  Be sure to grab some DAAANG! IPA from Moran’s even if you don’t win the pin prize.

Our featured Rare Beer this week is Even More Jesus Bourbon Maple Syrup Barrel-Aged from Evil Twin Brewing, based in Brooklyn, N.Y.  This highly-sought-after variant is “Even More Jesus,” a 12 % ABV imperial stout, aged in BLiS Gourmet bourbon-flavored maple syrup barrels. Even More Jesus was first released in 2012, and the Bourbon Maple Syrup Barrel-Aged variant hit the market in late 2016.  Feel free to freak out if you win a chance to drink this beer at the private rare beer dinner.

For the Highlands league, K&Z has Firestone Walker Pivo Pils on Tap.  They will be tasting Luponic Distortion and Leo vs. Ursus.  I’m a huge fan of Firestone Walker beers and will happily sub this week at Highlands for the golf … but really for the beers.

For Holmes, Quality Brands has a great selection of cans from Goose Island, including their IPA, 312, Summertime Kolsh and 4 Star Pils.  The feature keg is Cascara Grisette.
