Hello CBGLers! Looks like we'll have some nice weather for both nights of league this week. I have some exciting beers to talk about this week.
For our Moran's pin prize, we'll have a bomber of Barrel Aged Hibernation from Great Divide Brewing Company in Denver, Colorado. This is an old ale aged in bourbon barrels. The original beers of this style were typically transferred to vats to mature for an extended time, which is where the name comes from. Old ales are full-bodied, malty, sweet beers. In this bottle, you'll find notes of caramel, vanilla, oak, and whiskey. With an ABV above 12%, this would be a great bottle to share with a friend or two.
Our featured beer for the Rare Beer Dinner Check-in Sweepstakes is Parabola from Firestone Walker Brewing Company, out of Paso Robles, California. This is a Russian Imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels. This beer is a part of their Proprietor's Vintage series. All of the beers in the series are highly sought-after, and can be very difficult to acquire. Parabola is arguably the flagship, and considered by many to be the finest barrel-aged stout in the world. You'll find it to be very balanced and complex, with a heavy, creamy mouthfeel (the mark of an outstanding stout) and notes of vanilla, chocolate, coffee, oak, and bourbon.
For our Highlands beers this week, K&Z has lined up some great stuff from our new Lincoln brewery, White Elm. The owner is a Lincoln native who learned from some of the best brewers in Colorado. He moved back to Lincoln a couple of years ago to get started on his new brewing venture. White Elm is perhaps best known for their saisons, and grisettes, but nothing on the menu disappoints. I'm a huge fan of his stouts and IPAs. On tap this week, we'll have LNK Common, with tastings of Skinny Legs IPA and Saison on the beer cart.
At the Holmes league, Quality Brands will be featuring a selection of brews from Chicago’s Goose Island. In the clubhouse, we'll have Honkers Ale on tap. For tastings, and purchase on the beer cart, we'll have IPA and 312 Urban Wheat. As a note, the kegs are just big enough to ensure everyone gets their included league beer. Make sure you get your pour before your round, as it may be sold out by the end of your round.
As always, make sure you check in on the GolfStatus app for your chance to win a seat at one of the Rare Beer Dinners. Good luck, everyone!
