Week #2 Beers

Ryan Cooper

Hello golfers! Hopefully the week one weather didn't put too much of a damper on your rounds. Looks like we'll have another windy day at Highlands on Monday, but Tuesday is looking markedly better than last week.

This week for our Moran's bomber pin prize, I selected Imperial Mexican Biscotti Cake Break, a collaboration between Evil Twin Brewing and Westbrook. It's a combination of two highly regarded stouts from each brewer. Imperial Biscotti Break from Evil Twin is considered one of its flagship stouts, with flavors of coffee, vanilla, and almond. Mexican Cake from Westbrook is an imperial stout aged on cocoa nibs, habanero peppers, cinnamon sticks, and vanilla beans. As you can imagine with those kinds of ingredient lists, the combination of the two beers makes for a very complex and deep imperial stout. It has an outstanding 93 rating on beeradvocate.com.

The featured beer this week for the Rare Beer Dinner Check-in Sweepstakes is Black Note Stout, from Bell's Brewery out of Michigan. Black Note is a blend of their Expedition Stout and Double Cream Stout, aged in bourbon barrels. Once again, this is a beer that usually isn’t put out on shelves. To get some, you often have to be in the know, on a waiting list to get, or have a friend who is kind enough to share. You'll find flavors of chocolate, coffee, dried fruits, and bourbon in this 99-rated, world-class stout.

For the Highlands league this week, K&Z will be providing some selections from our local Zipline Brewing. On tap in the clubhouse, you'll find Country White, a Witbier with a farmhouse yeast strain. On the beer cart, a K&Z rep will be pouring tastings of Zipline's Kolsch and IPA.

We’re highlighting a new-to-Nebraska brewery at the Holmes league on Tuesday, thanks to Quality Brands of Lincoln. This is the first week you'll find Black Tooth Brewing, out of Sheridan, Wyoming, in Nebraska. Their Saddle Bronc, a brown ale, will be on tap in the clubhouse. On the beer cart, you'll be able to purchase cans of Bomber Mountain Amber Ale, and Hot Streak IPA.

Don't forget to check in on the GolfStatus app this week for your chance to win a spot at one of the Rare Beer Dinners. Have fun, and we hope you get to try some new beers this week!
